 Plastics Presentation: Sink or Swim?
Posted: Sun, 17 Jul 00:45:00
So, it's likely that most people don't actually understand exactly HOW deep into the whole plastics recycling issue we've gotten here at Atlas Games. Case in point: Last week John Nephew -- President and CEO of Atlas Games -- went to his kids' summer camp to do a presentation on how to ID different plastics, since they were having a park cleanup day. It turns out that plastics each have a different specific gravity. That …

 Recycling Baby Steps
Posted: Tue, 12 Jul 14:36:00
We're slowly putting together our plastics recycling workshop, one piece of equipment at a time, and we're excited to share our "baby steps" with you! Our first purchases were an Aonesy flat heat press (to replace the panini press we'd first experimented making plastic sheets with), and a Vaquform DT2 thermoformer. The thermoformer is kind of like an air hockey table in reverse that heats and then sucks a plastic sheet around any object. We …
Weird Little Elf Kickstarter Promises Delivery by Christmas
Posted: Mon, 11 Jul 17:55:00
In an era of expensive and unreliable overseas shipping, Atlas Games takes the foolishly brave step of promising delivery before Christmas. “We’ve done the advance work, coordinated with our factory, and have everything at press and ready to hit the GO button,” explained Michelle Nephew, who is both Atlas Games’ co-owner and Weird Little Elf’s co-producer. “In the event delivery slips, we’re even prepared to pay for air shipping our backers’ games from China if …
 We Got a Recycling Grant!
Posted: Fri, 01 Jul 15:02:00
We mentioned a few weeks ago that we had some BIG THINGS in the works regarding recycling. Well, now we can tell you all about it! We applied for the Idea Accelerator program with Builders & Backers, and were selected to receive a grant for a test of our recycling project. Builders & Backers is mentoring and facilitating our test project over the course of the summer. Our test project has these parameters: Problem: Game …
 One Word: Plastics
Posted: Tue, 14 Jun 20:46:00
Atlas Games is committed to finding ways to reduce our environmental impact. We haven't even used our last bags of corn starch packing peanuts (let alone needed to buy any more), since buying our cardboard perforator. And because we turn our excess boxes into packing material now, we rarely need to order our recycling dumpster picked up (probably just 2-3 times per year). Now we're looking at the plastic waste from our operations -- like polyethylene …

Saving the planet one box at a time
Posted: Mon, 23 May 16:32:00
Formax interviewed our warehouse manager, Woody Eblom, about our new Greenwave 430 Cardboard Perforator. The picture above shows Jackie Lozano turning unusable boxes into perforated cardboard to be used for packaging. Woody told Formax that prior to using the Greenwave, we were purchasing starch-based packing peanuts, which were expensive, and shipped in plastic bags. The Greenwave not only saves money in multiple ways but is good for the environment! Read the full interview here  …
